Research Notes |
A curette is a surgical instrument that is used to scrape away tissue. It is usually most known for the type that is used in the uterus. This curette, however, from the Kny-Scheerer Surgical Instrument company, was used for scraping bone. The scoop on the end has sharp edges for this purpose, and this tool was (and still is!) used to smooth jagged bone and to remove tumours. In 1915, this curette came in five sizes and sold for $1.75. The one in our collection is a size two. |
