Research Notes |
These lenses were made by the Soft-Lite Lens Company, and are very slightly tinted. They were used to determine the level of tint a patient needed for a pair of rose coloured glasses. Made for people whose eyes were sensitive to light, these early-to-mid 20th century glasses were advertised to cut down on glare and protect the eyes. Rose-coloured glasses were also used on chickens around the same time, as they were believed to reduce chickens’ tendency to peck at each other. The test lenses in our collection are tint gradations 1 and 2, on either side of the metal rod they are attached to, so the rose-colour is barely noticeable.
