Research Notes |
Bottle of yellow immersion oil: the text on the bottle is in German, translating to "Immersion fluid for lens V." Immersion fluid is still used today in microscopy. The lens and the microscopic specimen are both immersed in this type of oil, which increases the resolving power (how well the lens can distinguish between objects) of the microscope. This oil is believed to have been made sometime in the early twentieth century. |
